Tat was the problem -- I got eth0 taken care of, and then forgot about
lo. 2.2.5 kicks on the old 486s I've got it on.

You are probably trying to do `route add 127.0.0.0 dev lo' or something
similar. Just remove that line or make it conditional on a 2.0 kernel. But

This error is generated from the startup script /etc/init.
