To link create a link you should use the "ln" command not "ls".

By any chance do you know to what device is your CD-ROM attached?
For exemple, my cd-rom is the slave drive of the first IDE, therefore it is
/dev/hdb. The usual IDE device are:
/dev/hda: Master of first IDE slot;
/dev/hdb: Slave of first IDE slot;
/dev/hdc: Master of second IDE slot;
