If you're comfortable with editing config files by hand, you
need to modify two files:
/etc/network/interfaces
/etc/modprobe.conf
modprobe.conf is for the linux kernel 2.6. If you're running
linux kernel 2.4 (likely) then create a new file (any name)
in /etc/modutils/ and run upd
How do I setup a second network card and have it activated upon boot? And how
do I change which card is at eth0 and which card is at eth1?

I have a Compaq 590 Deskpro with internal PCnet/32 net-card on board.
Debian 2.1 Slink is running.
Now I installed as 2nd card a 3Com 900, because to build a packet
filter firewall.
PCnet/32 at 0x1000, irq 11 as eth1
3Com 900 at 0x1040, irq 10 as eth0
in lilo config the parameters are a
