after upgrading from kernel 2.4 to 2.6 (2.6.8 sarge and 2.6.15 etch) i have a
problem with virtual interfaces (e.g. eth0:1) in /etc/network/interfaces with
mapping-scripts.
When i define 2 virtual interfaces the first run of ifup -a stopps directly
after calling the mapping-script for th

Is this PCMCIA? If so, take that out.
The networking scripts run before the PCMCIA, so you can't 'ifup -a'
the PCMCIA card during boot. Let the PCMCIA subsystem bring the card
up.

I have two boxes, one Woody with a 2.4.18 kernel and one Testing with a
2.4.20 kernel. The /etc/network/interfaces are identical except for the
static addresses. The Testing box signs on to the network at bootup,
the Woody box does not. Specifically, the interfaces file for the Woody
