Problem resolved, i recompiled the kernel and restarted, probably it was
my m8s fault . Also enabled config.gz support it's very useful.

modconf (install the driver)
and editting /etc/network/interfaces manually
adding
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp (solved the problem)

I installed kernel 2.4.22 (downloaded 2.4.22 source as debian package
