I got quite new comp, Debian testing/sid with Gnome and this is
sometimes freezing so that only 5s pressing power button helps. Not sure
if its about hw or sw, not sure, how to find, what to test.

the "core" directory. Open up the .deb (I use mc for that) and copy
the following files to your machine.

The man page for sane talks about setting certain environement variables.
this might be helpful:

Yes, I tried this option - the result was the same :-( - not scanning.
Not sure If we do have to uninstall previously installed driver from
debian repositories before installing this epson package.
