I'm looking at various Linux versions but none seem to indicate whether
they are compatible with certain software programs such as:
AutoCAD
Adobe Photoshop et al
SoundForge
Any info you can supply would greatly help my decision.

I also tried to run fsck from Knoppix but, whether from my fault or
otherwise, that didn't solve the problem. At this point, I'm getting a
little desperate.

I've gotten my Debian distro installed and running fine EXCEPT for mysql ...
try as i might, i can't seem to resolve the issue of setting up a mysql
account and using phpmyadmin or webmin to administer mysql ... webmin wants
a username/password, and i can't seem to satisfy it
e set the db-dir to o=no access.
The only Samba-specific thing about this is the way Samba lets you
have per-directory umasks (well, per-share, actually).

It's been a while since I looked at the Samba docs, but a few years
ago there was a portion of the Readme (or install, or bugs, or
something) that dealt specifically with MS Access. Grep for it.
