When installing debian I was suggested by the installation program to
use XDM to start X windows.
I now understand that I do not want that. However I can only use startx
command (what I was using

I would suggest BusLogic --- not only they are good
but also they 'officially' support linux providing the drivers.
Adaptec on the other hand refused (as far as I know) to recognize
Linux as OS to support.

Some how, after installing and configuring debian's hamm snop-shot
of December 19's -- I cannot print.
I have Okidata with HP emulation and just a simple command like
cp text.file /dev/lp0 -- kind of starts the printer -- the printer
displays that it is receiving data and then nothing happ
My netscape 4.04 is also working just fine -- I did not have
to do anything at all. Just downloaded, installed using
debian packages and it just works.
My configuration:
hamm debian as of December 19 (all libc6 + some packages that cannot
live without libc5)
kernel: 2.1.78

Would anyone know how to verify that I am connecting to
Internet at 56K. I run Debian hamm + 2.1.78 kernel.
I use X-ISP package to connect (it displays 31.200 connected speed).
I know that when I use the same modem connecting to the same ISP
only running WinNT -- it connects at 56K.

I have debian-hamm as of Dec. 19, (everything is libc6) installed.
I cannot seem to get X to work when I am not root.
It tells me that only root can run the server.
I thought that there might be something wrong with permissions, so
I reinstalled x-server-s3v. It installed OK with one error
