Your display manager may be configured not to allow root logins. Check
the documentation; there may be a directive in the configuration file
that must be changed.

Emacs is a versatile editor and functions quite well as an IDE. Any
features not included out-of-the-box can be easily added using Emacs
Lisp script, but don't worry about learning that, because most, if not
all, functions you'll need are in the stock version or have already

Hey, that was it! This is a bug that was apparently fixed in 2.6.18.6, so
what I ended up doing to fix it was to upgrade to 2.6.18.8, thus eliminating
the bug.

filesystems /usr, /opt, /home, /var and /tmp are not mounting, and when I
attempt to mount them manually, mount complains that the file
/dev/mapper/vg1- is missing. The /dev/mapper directory contains only

One interface is a Marvell 88e1115 PHY (PCI), the other is 88e8053 (PCIe). I don't know what modules to load; it doesn't say in the manual and my Google search turned up nothing useful.

I just booted my debian system for the first time and it automatically
ran /usr/sbin/base-config . It went fine until tasksel. I chose yes
when asked whether to run tasksel, but nothing happened and it skipped
to the part where it asks me if i want to run dselect. I selected no,
and it gave me this
