That's right (meaning I wasn't using evdev before the upgrade). The relevant
sections of xorg.conf looked like the following:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Generic Keyboard"
Driver "kbd"
Option "CoreKeyboard"
Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
Option "XkbModel" "pc104"
Option "XkbLayout" "us"
End
Thanks again for the reply-hope this one goes through.
Below are the commands and responses.
Steve
ls -l /dev/input/by-id/
total 0lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Jun 3 02:37
usb-Chicony_Saitek_Eclipse_II_Keyboard-event-kbd -> ../event3
lshal --show $(hal-find-by-capability --capability input.mouse)
running dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg does nothing. I'm
actually pretty reliant on my keyboard and will be eternally grateful if any
kind soul can point me in a direction to get this fixed

I'm hitting the appended error message (and variants) when
I use 'apt-get install xlibmesa-gl'. If some kind soul can help
decode (or even better, fix) the issue at hand, I'd be most
