I'm trying to setup a display manager, and no matter which I install
(xdm, wdm, kdm), I have no keyboard at the login app.
The kb works fine in console and under X. The only time there is a
problem is with the login app.
The system is current potato running kernel 2.2.12 on an i386. The

Hi,
I'm trying to install kdevelop (kdevelop_1%3a1.0-19991009-1_i386.deb) on a
newly installed Debian potato box, and get the following:
Setting up kdevelop (1.0-19991009-1) ...
cannot open dhelp file '/usr/share/doc/HTML/en/kdevelop/.dhelp': at
/usr/sbin/install-docs line 559.

Which version of kernel-package are you referring to? 'Latest' isn't
very definitive, since not all mirrors are always synched...
There was an Important bug (#46986) against kernel-package 6.24, but it
seems to be fixed in 6.2

Just updated and upgraded this evening, and tried to make a kernel image:

a.2 kernel_image

Long answer: Not without reinstalling from scratch.

I'm trying to upgrade a fresh slink base-install to potato. I've upgraded
apt (0.3.7slink0), edited sources.list, did apt-get update, and apt-get
dist-upgrade. (I've done all this from scratch 3 times - it's repeatable).
I get the following error:
E: Problem executing scripts DPkg::Pre-Invoke 'm

On my system wdm runs on port 1024. I don't know if you are running wdm,
but I would suspect that xdm and gdm use the same port. Y
Sorry, I deleted the original message before I realized that I might
have an answer.
The original question was about suppressing verbose messages at boot.
In the file: /etc/defaults/rcS
# Set VERBOSE to "no" if you would like a more quiet bootup.
VERBOSE=yes
Hope this helps.

I'm trying to install slink on a Gateway E-4200 (PIII 400). This is
a testbed install, eventually to be an entire lab. I've had no problems
installing to an older E-3200 (PII 300).
The problem is that the network card (3COM 3c905.c) isn't recognized.
When I select the appropriate module from the

Beverly,
This may make a difference, since I don't remember what version of apt
is used in 2.1 (I'm running an "unstable" version). Also
Libc6 Netscape had been working great for me. On last night's potato
update the dependencies were changed (adding libc5 IIRC).
The _very_next_time_ I used Netscape it crashed on a pop-up window..
