Hi,
This is my first post to the list and you guessed it, I have a
question.
I have debian 3.0 "woody" installed and working but I cannot get
virtual IPs setup.
uname -a gives
Linux adebbox 2.2.20-idepci #1 Sat Apr 20 12:45:19 EST 2002 i686 unknown
I have tried adding the following to

I'm having a lot trouble installing Linux on my ppc.
I'm stuck on the hard drive partitioning. I've read
your installation manual and played around with it.
But nothing seems to work. Can you e-mail me step by
step instructions on how to successfully get through
the hard drive partition step.
imake config
shutdown and reboot
or something like that that.
I really wish someone would let me in on the secret of getting
these devices installed in this 2.2.1 version!!!

Get a new boot disk (or better yet a bootable cdrom), and load the kernel
with the option "root=/dev/xxx" appended on the command line.

First for installation, don't use the ata100 controler to plug in your hard
disk, keep up with the good old ide controler. Then you will install your
system and then ensure your kernel can load the drivers for the ata100
controler !

Ok, everyone is saying putty is working fine...
I use SecureCRT (http://www.vandyke.com)
which does also nice linux handling with a color terminal and stuff.

MySQL default nstallation under Debian :
config files are in /etc/mysql
log files are in /var/log
databases are stored in /var/lib/mysql
It should work when you install the debian packages
mysql-server, mysql-client, libmysqlclient
Else look for error in the logs, tweak the config file.

I recently upgraded my debian woody.
Now whenever I start apache it just dies and I get this error in
/etc/apache/error.log :
apache: dl-close.c:122: _dl_close: Assertion `new_opencount[0] == 0' failed.
This is package apache-1.3.12-2.1
Any ideas what could cause this error ?

Maybe that should be documented in some FAQ because I haven't found any
easy-to-find doc about that besides looking in the kernel doc how to load
modules and rename them.

add a single
line with "ne", and in /etc/modutils/ne add a line "options ne io=0x300
irq=10") - then run update-modules to
update the modules.conf file.
If you have compiled your own kernel, make sure you selected the driver for
your NIC as a module first.

Finally you create your aliases files in /etc/aliases and map them to real
users :

My guess is you're compiling to make a debian package (dpkg- output), but
dpkg doesn't know
about oracle libs. Why not just make your local compile for php+oracle ?
Sorry, I can't help you much with making debian packages.

headers & libs for Oracle,
then make sure ORACLE_HOME is really set in your environment before starting
apache/php.

.1 kernel_image)
you can install (dpkg -i kernel-image-2.2.4_Custom.1_i386.deb).
Finally mark this package as to keep the current version, so it doesnt get
upgraded/downgraded.

Yes you need to have the module loaded for your network card
before you can actually use the eth0 interface w/ ifconfig and such.

Subject: Re: Network conf
Look in /lib/modules/x.y.z/ where x.y.z is your linux kernel version.
If the modules are not there, you will have to compile them from the kernel
sources.
(first, check if they are not included as part of the kernel).

Install the driver for your network card in the kernel, or load the
appropriate module.
It usually goes with parameters for io and irq.
Then you will have the eth0 device, and you can use ifconfig.
