I have a 486 here with 16MB RAM. I make only a rescue disk, the driver disk and
base file is on the hd already. It takes less than 5 minutes to install on it.
Yes, I'm serious -- I timed it.

Should work if it's SB compatible
Everything else looks fine.

is there any Perl method to check versions on packages or even an easier way to
get rid of duplicate packages ?

s with different speeds. Kernel 2.2.x has this built-in and there is
also a patch for 2.0.xx kernels, see
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/networking/shaper.txt.

the maximum possible
size the bios can accept larger. I haven't tested EZ-Drive with Linux yet, but I
can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Check www.westerndigital.com for the
program (It doesn't only work on Western Digital hd's)

It wasn't necessary to reboot...
Couldn't imoprtant binaries that could stop a machine from rebooting be
statically linked to avoid problems like this ?

uldn't have to reinstall if it happened to me again though. Boot with your
Debian rescue disk and install the libncurses4 package with dpkg, if that
doesn't work, see if you can get the libncurses.so.4 file from somewhere else,
boot the disk, copy it to your /usr/lib directory, boot your debian and install
the libncurses4 package.

I think this has happened to me before, not sure though. Just do
'touch /etc/menu-methods/kde' to make it happy, then remove the package.

ust using a file: method which is a bit of a paint as I
have to mount the cd first. Isn't such a method already planned? Such a method
would make nearly all of the dpkg methods obsolete.

omething into the kernel that could also have been
compiled as a module and then try to load that module, you get an error
message. Just edit /etc/modules and remove the modules you don't want to
be loaded.

There's a FAQ on pine's website that answers your question.
