Can someone tell me how to get a 2.6 kernel that installs and
gives me ports that work? I get ppp.log errors like "Can't get
terminal parameters: Input/output error," kern.log says "Serial:
8250/16550 driver $Revision: 1.90 $ 48 ports, IRQ sharing enabled" but
"ttyS1: LSR safety check engaged!"

wwwoffle is calling htdig-incr in cron - but htdig runs for hours and the
/var/spool/htdig files use about 227M - those files are unchanged
since Nov. 28 (may be install date). This is debian 2.2R3, stable.
The htdig.conf is unchanged. What configuration does it need to reduce

What's Debian's procedure for installing and maintaining perl?
At the beginning, dselect insisted that packages for perl-5.004
and perl-5.005 be installed. Is it necessary
Other lib*-perl packages were installed and recently perl 5.6.1 was
compiled, successfully, after most defaults were accepte
modutils tries to cleanup /var/log/ksymoops with
the /sbin/insmod_ksymoops_clean script, copying /proc files
then rm'ing with

Do color monitors die after four years? The boot messages are barely
visible; seems they've gotten worse over two months since I installed
Debian 2.2. I've got the monitor buttons for brightness and contrast
at maximum, setterm=bold within Linux, so I can see. And X allows me
to look at dselect.

Evan,
To put this in context, my profession involves developing improved software
distribution methodologies and so I compare most software installations against
my
own research and I'm working as hard as I am because I find most approaches
disappointing (not just Debian). I'll try to illuminate

Salutations,
I've been dead in the water for weeks now. I'm busy and I don't have
time to hack into the Debian drivers. I bought the official Debian
release and registered it by snail mail. I was expecting to get back an
E-Mail address for the promised 30 days of E-Mail support - never
happened. H
Salutations,
I log in to Sun using a prompt-response method. The server sends down a
random number, I make an entry into a calculator and it gives me the
password for that session. For this reason, I can't hook up using expect
or chat. Using slackware and Caldera, I just log in using cu. Debian's
Salutations,
I can shut doen lprng and cat /dev/motd to /dev/lp1 but when I turn on
