fail2ban. I don't have to spend the time with the firewall and the
breakin attempts have dropped dramatically, to the point where I
seldom see one any more.

It took forever for me to move to Etch from Sarge. However, along
with Andrew, I would suggest moving to php5 as soon as you are able
my mail server and seem to have no problem getting yahoo mail.
