Folks ~
My Thinkpad R32 (just installed 'testing') loads X just fine after booting,
but if I exit and then later type "startx" it fails.
My XF86Config-4 is included below.
I diff'd a log file from a successful start (calling it 'xdm log')
with one generated right after shutting down X and runnin

I'm running testing, and a week or two ago apt [dist-upgrade] wanted
to install a new Perl (5.8) to replace my current 5.6.1. I've no
special preference for 5.6x, but apt also wants to remove several Perl
modules on which I depend.
To wit: Digest::MD5 appears to be replaced with libmd5-p

This all started so simply - I just wanted the mysql DBI module. So I
fired up CPAN for the first time (perl -MCPAN -e shell), went through
the configuration, and then watched as it downloaded and installed
Perl 5.6.1. Oops. Debian.org doesn't even list a Perl 5.6.1; the most
recent they have is 5.
Many thanks to all the good people who replied. I agree with those who
prefer editing text files to using (e.g.) linuxconf, but it's hunting down
those files which is causing me trouble.
I put 3c59x into /etc/modules and that did part of the trick. Then edited

Hello folks ~
I'm trying to get my 3Com 3c900B-TPO working under Debian 2.2.18pre21.
Here's what I've tried, and what I know, or think I know :P
- Debian installer didn't detect the card.
- The card's not detected by Debian at boot (I found no 'eth0' in dmesg)
- 'ifconfig' lists only "lo" (loc
