I can install Sarge just fine network and all.
When I change to unstable(sid) and apt-update/dist-upgrade
and re-boot the system can no longer fine the network hardware.
So no I need to re-install again from scratch ?
This is too painful. :-(

After installing Debian and upgrading to kernel 2.6.4 my system booted
but the sound did not work for emu10k1. I apt-get kernel-source-2.6.4
and ran make menuconfig, selected the sound/emu10k1 drivers and drivers
for my network card and USB masstorage device. Then after saving to
.config I ran make
Try this: Add
deb http://www.tux.org/pub/java/debian unstable main non-free
to your /etc/apt/sources.list and re-run apt-get update.
