I'm running a Debian 2.1r4 box with a SB 16 WavEffects (CT4171) sound
card. It seems to work in some things but not others. I have support for
it compiled into the kernel and I have 'PnP OS?=No' in the BIOS (Award
4.51pg, I believe).

well, i'm sending this message from windoze. :( i can't seem to send
any mail, only receive it. i ran smailconfig --force twice and still
the same thing, it says no route to host.

no, it was working properly, but i had entered the last field as .1 when
it should have been .2 (i ping'd the main server and compared values).
all is fine now.

i just installed 1.3.1 and everytime i do anything 'net oriented
(popclient, netstat -r, netscape) there seems to be about a five second
pause before anything happens.
did i maybe enter some info incorrectly or something?

i'm trying to get my umax s6e scanner to work using davidm's sane. i have
a adaptec ava-1505 card working well with my scsi zip drive.
during boot-up, the kernel recognizes my scanner correctly, right down to
the model name ( :)! ). it lists it as "generic device sga" or some such
(i know it
when i upgraded to 4.01b6 i no longer got that message.

so what's the fix for adduser? it's not working for me at all. i am
running 1.3.1 (installed 1.3 and update on a daily basis with dselect).

don't know if this will help at all, but if you're running an award bios
and can upgrade to the latest version (4.51, i believe) it will initialize
the pnp cards for you. i just built a computer with an asus motherboard,
and it initializes my sb32pnp and usr pnp cards so all i have is the

updated, including xbase, vga & svga servers, fonts, etc. i am using
xinside's AcceleratedX with a Matrox Mystique video card.
