syslogd really slow

log daemon: syslogd" sits on the screen for about 5 minutes (literally!) with no signs of the computer even doing anything. The HD/Cd-rom lights are not flashing. It's just sitting there. Eventually it does start up and everything works fine. Any ideas of where to start on this one

You have to make sure that you have VFAT support compiled into your kernel.  If you already do then you can simply   mount -tvfat /dev/hda1 /window   /dev/hda1 will be whatever your windows partition is and /window will be the directory you want the mount point to be.   Leonard Leblanc
