Hi,
I'm wondering which is the best way to start exim4. I'm fetching my mail
from my ISP with fetchmail manually with a script because I only want to
do it when I am connected to internet.
As I see it there are 3 alternatives, but if anybody can come up with a
4:th please tell me.

Hi,
I tried to do dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 yesterday expecting it to
create a new XF86Config-4 file, but it didn't. I moved the old
XF86Config-4 to my /home/ directory and ran dpkg-reconfigure
xserver-xfree86. Am I supposed to do something else?
I am asking because I want to try some diff

Hi, I have a quick question about the package list (stable) at
www.debian.org.
Some packages have a red "label", security, behind them. Does this mean
that this package is security enhanced or that it is a security risk?
This might be a silly question, but I am confused because I can't find a

Thank you for all your replies.
I have set up Iptables so that I reject
all incomming traffic, except the traffic I have requested, because I
don't need incomming SSH or anything like that.
Thanks again for all help.

Hello, I'm just wondering if I am ready for the internet?
I ran nessus and the only thing it complained about was the ports nessusd
runs on and the traceroute to localhost. I also ran tiger and it didn't
say anything special either. I have also gone through the
securing-debian-howto...
Is there

Hello all,
I am trying to create a "mailboxfile" in /var/mail/ and I am just
wondering what the format for such a file is and how you create one. I am
not even sure if it is supposed to be a special kind of file or if it is a
special kind of directory.
I've tried reading a linuxbook, "Running Lin

Oh, you are so right!
Thanks for all replies, , they were very helpful! I got confused by the
rm at the beginning of nologin and couldn't find a man page for it. Then I
got lazy and asked about makedev and quotarpc also, instead of reading the
manpages.
So I will leave nologin and makedev alone but I think I will remov
Hi, I have recently installed Debian and I love it so far! I'm currently
trying to secure it as much as I can...
I'm reading debian-security-howto as I go along. I'm currently trying to

My question is, do I need rmnologin, makedev or quotarpc? What are the
