I can't seem to puzzle out how to input unicode into X apps: specifically,
I need to do this in OpenOffice.org. My Windows "friends" all have
keyboard switching programs that allow them to select different unicode
fonts so that they can write their friends in Urdu, Byelorussian and
Mandarin. Mean

I got ahold of an older laptop to which I've installed Debian Sid. Since
it's a low memory setup, I'd like to use one of those xvesa thingies

something like this in Debian unstable: it's called xserver-tinyx-fbdev.
So, I apt-get

physical mouse, the cursor on the screen will not move: it just stays

I've been trying to use OpenOffice Writer for a project requiring a
multipage table. Unfortunately, OOWriter cannot make (or display!)
multipage tables, and apparently *will not* until version 2.0. This kind
of stinks, but now I'm looking at alternatives. I've heard some people
rave about the ol

I'm thinking of recommending Debian to someone who has only a dialin
connection to the 'net. For various reasons, a network install would be
the best option for them. Is it reasonable to expect them to be able to
do a network install over dialup? I should also explain that this will be

often need to ask some pretty stupid questions about setting up, using and
administering Debian. So, my first stupid question is: is this the right

Did you compile the kernel with cramfs, also?
You didn't mention it.
