Stable vs. Frozen

I am integrating the different OS's on my office network... i think that the netatalk precompiled pkg i have is corrupt. If i download source and compile it myself do i need to use deselect and remove the old package first??? kernel version is 2.0.29. thanks for any info... Fuzy Thanks, Babs, You
