I have added a local directory to sources.list:

/etc/apt/sources.list
Further I have created a directory tree:
mkdir -p /usr/local/software/debian/stable/non-free
and put my .deb files in there.
Then I did apt-ge
Suppose, we have some broken files on our system. Is there any way/tool to
automatically scan for the broken files; i.e. compare the checksum of the
files on disk with the checksum stored in the package metadata?
After the corrupted package is identified, how can I reinstall the package?

Debian creates a CVS reposetory in /var/lib by default.
I have some misgivings about this location.
Doesn't the filesystem standard allow to delete all files below /var?
This would be rather fatal for the development team if some careless admin
follows this rule.
