Hey,
while trying to install mplayer from a non-free source, I've come across
something I hadn't seen with apt-get so far:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
mplayer-686: Depends: libavcodec1 (>= 1:0.4.8-woody0.0) but it is not
going to be installed
Depends: libvorb
Hi Daniel,
if you install package X and in doings so, apt says that it will remove
package Y, remember that this is the basis for the super-cow powers that apt
has: package dependency issueses. Either these 2 packages can not be
installed at the same time or these 2 packages privide the same virtu
Hi,
how do I tell apt-get "I want to install this ftp server, but please
don't delete the old one I have running"?

Thanks for all of the help from everyone - eh, I sounded quite
desperate, but I was really pissed off that day, returning from a 10
hour shift with only a few precious hours to spend at home and my debian
giving me shit for no reason.
Due to all of the suggestions I've been given here, I've pla
Hi,
I'm having a whole damn lot of problems here, pretty much all of a sudden.
Ever since a good friend helped me install debian (let's say he's a

Hey all,
I want to record sound from microphone. I am trying to use Audacity, but
the rec program from sox would be cool as well.
Here's what I did, back when I was running SuSE:
I brought up KMix, selected microphone as input source, muted it (so
there'd be no echo over speakers/headphones), st
Hoi,
this is my first time on debian when a new version of some program comes
out that I want immediately. I have firefox 0.8 installed, an apt-get
install mozilla-firefox tells me I have the latest version, and in my
apt/sources.list it says unstable after the url.. when, roughly, can I

Hey,
this mostly to Justin, but probably to others as well who might be
interested in helping me solve the mystery of HOW I solved my problem.
Justin's hint to actually use alsamixer for more than finding out the
version of my alsa sent me on the right way. Scrolling all the way to
the right in
anything, ask away.
Thank you for your attention already,
Daniel Klein
