Cron spawns...

1999-07-01 Thread Ares
When I got to work this morning, unlocking my X screen took an enormous amount of time, and the rest of the system was incredibly sluggish. Top revealed several copies of cron and a couple of copies of smbd running, and they pretty much had 100% of the CPU time split between them. Has anyone seen t

The Zip "partition" is in your case /dev/hdc4. make a directory called /zip, and do a "mount -t vfat /dev/hdc4 /zip". Your Zip disk's contents will apper in /zip. Alternatively, you can use the automounter to handle this. JDM Jason D. Michaelson | Debian GNU/ o http://www.d

Samba works quite well for this sort of thing. You can get all the info you want from www.samba.org/samba. There is a Debian package of version 1.9.18p10 somewhere (I'm not sure at the moment), with a filename of samba 1.9.18p10-7.deb. JDM Jason D. Michaelson | Debian GNU/

You may also have a power quality problem, or a problem with the system power supply. I would definitely try using memory from a different dealer, and failing that, I'd put a decent UPS on the computer. _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ Jason D. Michaelson _/ _/ _/

Re: C Program confused me

1999-03-12 Thread Ares
It is a well known fact in Mathematics that Pi is 4*arctan(1). arctan(x) is the integral from 0 to x of (1/(1+x*x)) or, if you're not mathematically inclined, it is the area between the x axis and 1/(1+x*x) and between the y-axis and x. So, the for loop is simulating this integration. Of course, th

I once had one of these modems. there is a program for linux which can be used to download the code natively. Its called smdl and can be found at sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/apps/serialcomm/modem. you didn't specify which model you use. Supposedly, this only works on a connection modem. Regards, J
