OpenSSH causes my system to dial out

2000-02-10 Thread Andreas Voegele
If I'm trying to connect to another local machine with ssh, my system goes online since ssh fails to locally resolve the address of the other machine for some reason. Does someone else have this problem? The address of the other machine is in /etc/hosts and it can also be resolved by the local DN

Using gnome-terminal instead of xterm

1999-06-25 Thread Andreas Voegele
I always have to enter commands like "gnome-terminal -e minicom" in the GNU menu editor instead of simply activating "Run in Terminal", since GNOME seems to use "xterm" to start applications. How can I tell GNOME to use "gnome-terminal" instead of "xterm"?

Text cursor disappears in Emacs

1999-06-13 Thread Andreas Voegele
Since the last update of my systems the text cursor disappears in GNU Emacs 20.3-8 under X11. The problem maybe has something to do with the syntax highlighting. Above colored parts of the text the cursor is visible. I've got two machines and the problem occurs only on one of them. Both machine

GNOME startup

1999-06-06 Thread Andreas Voegele
Sometimes GNOME does not startup immediately. Instead, the panel appears after a minute or so with the default settings and icons enabled. To get my session I've got to kill "gnome-session" and relogin. I've got two systems running potato and I've got the problem on both systems. Does anybody else
