I have heard that pentium optimised code will work on 386's. I have
even heard that I think suse use pentium optimisations on there
release
stuff (and not in its own section). Personally I would think that
would be a bad idea even if it does work though, but it is just my two
cents.
Don't know how to solve it, but if it helps anyone who knows more about hard
disks than me my hd gives the first2 lines and it works fine.
You could try running e2fsck -c if you can get it working, as that could
correct the third error (possibly).

Download a patch (or three) as they are only about 400kb
You can compile in ntfs ro support in the 2.2.1 kernel. I think there might be
an experimental rw support bit as well.

You can download them from the net. If you go to www.debian.org then follow the
link on the left called packages, you should get to the packages page. The kde
lib you are looking for AFAIK is qt1g.

It works for me on hamm. There are always key things in the kernel which can
make a certain computer hang, critical applications include things like apm, and
sound etc. Try loads of different stuff if you can boot with a 2.0.x.

You have got to recompile the kernel, and enable apm support.

You can either run dos fdisk, or you can run linux fdisk/cfdisk, and change the
partition type, then finally running mkfs -t msdos /dev/
on it.

Sorry, spoke too soon. I have found the drivers after a search through dejavu.
It still doesn't work, but then it doesn't on my windoze partition either
(except in vga-16 mode, which is because it emulates standard vga), so it isn't
really very supprising.

Hi,
Has anyone got the INTEL C740SG 8Mb AGP card working under x, and know of some
drivers, as I can't find any.
Thanks,

Try installing through dpkg and see if it gives the same error. If it does then
you could try one of the --force options (I forget which one).

Has anyone had trouble with the mailing list recently. I was unsubsribed two
days ago. This has happened before so I re-subscribed, so I got one day of
messages, then was unsubscribed again. (By unsubsrcribed I mean I stop
receiving messages for debian-user.

Hi,
What is that program to combine too partitions to behave like one. I cannot
remember it and I need that 500mb extra hard drive (Doubling my capacity).
Thanks,

I won't say much on this, but a few points: First I do agree with you on the
games thing. If you need new games *that* much, stick in a second hd or make a
second partition to put windoze on. (As I think you already have done).
Second, are you a developer, as that is IMHO where linux comes into
Finally I have worked out what I was doing wrong, (Hopefully this will help the
next person who makes this mistake) and it was (as always) really stupid. I was
trying to make using non-elf (a.out) binaries, which was causing the problem.
(This probably stems from using DJGPP for two years, which
Yes, I had to re-subscribe.

P.S. Sorry for this mail (and all the mail I send at the moment) being posted
twice, as my mail server seems to be doing that and returning them to me as
well.

Hi,
I am at the moment trying to build the kernel (2.0.34) I have configured it
(make xconfig, then ran make mrproper as advised by a post in the mail archives
on this problem, and then done make zImage, and it comes up with this error
after a long time:
./xtract /usr/src/kernel-source-2.0.34/vml
Unless I am very much mistaken XF86Setup has a logitech mouse type, so you
should be able to use it for your mouse. This should work correctly.

You could try using dpkg --install youpackage
I have no experience of this, but it might work.

Hi,
I'm a newbie to linux, and have a question. I know this is a bit off topic in
this group, as it is a linux in general question, but anyway:
How do I get linux to mark bad sectors on my hard drive, as I have a few, and
they are stopping me doing lots of things like running Xwindows etc. fsck

When I installed from Cheep Bites I couldn't create the XF86Config file,
although the setup carried on. The only slight problem I have had since
is I can't run XF86Setup. (What a shame, as I would run xf86config
anyway)
