Hi! When trying to start gnome-session, I get the Debian splash screen
but then gnome exits, the console indicating an error in /usr/lib/libXft.so.2.
Ideas welcome on how to get around this.

Hi! Trying to start Mozilla recently does nothing. ps -A tells me that
a task called mozilla-bin is running but the browser does not come up.
Same systems runs konqueror and netscape perfectly. Galeon, however,
will not start up either. Advice appreciated.

Hi! Due to physical disk read errors had to copy /var/spool/apt and
/var/lib/apt files to another disk and, after bad block checking, back.
Apparently something went wrong in the process, perhaps due to file
corruption.
Anyway, now consistently getting the following error messages when doing
apt
Thanks, Micha! Simple and effective solution.
Being chonically lazy, my next question (OT) is if you can recommend a
good menu-driven configuration tool for fvwm.

Hi! fvwm seems to have improved a lot recently and is at least
colourfull and fast. But in the default debian package install (at
least on my system) I don't see any debmenus.
Advise and / or pointers to specific parts of docs welcome.

Yes. But we can help development by making packagers aware of such an
item. Lou, as you are more competent that yours truly, you will
probably be able to post a better report. However, please let me know
if you would prefer me to do it.

Thanks a million, Lou! You're a genius. Small cause, big effect.
Whew! Did you post a bug report to the inetutils-tools packagers?

Thanks, Andreas. Alas the problem is still alive but here are some

Hi! After all the publicity about the breakins to the Debian servers,
I decided to try to secure my systems better and, alas, not only
failed in the process but trashed my network as well. The loopback
interface lo is down, unreachable (even as root) and ping fails.
Occasionally I get message
