missing screen resolutions

Just loaded squeeze onto a Lenovo T420i and the max resolution I get is 1024x768. According to System -> Preferences -> Monitors the only resolutions available are 1024x768, 960x600, and 800x600. xrandr shows the same thing. Using the on board intel Sandy Bridge graphics. Tried a live Ubuntu CD a
