old video card i was using .. I resolved it using dpkg
and tied to configure it with that .. and got X
working that way ,ight be an option to explore...

have network yet. I can copy the debs to a cd, create a file apt
repository, and just use apt-get to install the additional packages, like
such.

I was hoping there would be a simple command to restart a daemon. Namely
lprng. I know about killall but what signal do you pass it to have it
restart??

I have installed TurboPrint several times before with success in using
my USB printer. That was BEFORE I enabled USB support in my new kernel.
I am now running 2.4.23 kernel with USB support enabled so that it would
configure my USB keyboard and mouse as USB devices and not as generic
devices.

The fix for me was at the root command prompt to run nano (text
editor) then ctl R to read file /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and remove
the line that says "FB "

I'm installing Debian 3.0 r.2 from CD, but am unable to get XFree86 to
work. When I try to run X it says the computer can't find any screens.
I'm using an NVIDIA GeFORCE 4MX video card into a 17" monitor.
What should I do?

printer shall work on Debian 3.0 OS. Some shops recommend HP Deskjet
3550 with USB plug.
