How can VNC server, on Woody, be setup to drop into the GDM and/or XDM
login screen? It is coming up already logged in with the id of the

Doesn't X (at least 3.x.x) require gpm to configure mice?

When I got DSL, I had a problem with my two NICS's. Things would usually
end up with the NIC's being assigned the wrong addresses.
What I did to correct this mess was to have the DSL modem's NIC get
configured in /etc/init.d/local.
What is the best way to avoid this type of problem? BTW, the
I have recently changed sound cards in my machine running 'woody', but
my system seems to keep loading the old module (emu10k1). I have
updated /etc/modutils/sound to use the new module and run
update-modules. I have also updated my initrd for the kernel I use
(vmlinuz-2.4.18-k7). Where else is

When I execute "xhost +" on localhost, telnet to another machine, set the
DISPLAY to my machine's hostname (!export DISPLAY=prag:0.0"), I get the
error message that this connection is refused by the server? Why? (It
doesn't make sense to me since I executed "xhost +" on the machine the X

Hi,
How can I find out whether the hard disks in my Woody box
are using the best possible DMA mode (or any DMA at all)?
Allthough I have a relativly slow machine (VIA C3 800 + 256MB),
I have an ATA100 controller (VIA PL133) and two Seagate Barracuda IVs.
So they should be relatively fast and use
