I have noticed that when my mail comes and procmail filters

No "front-ends" needed. Just give pppd the 'persist' option. You can do

drivers etc... the new ones are a bit too expensive though (up to $300),

Yup, that did the trick. gaim was the offender, I believe its name was
changed to
gaim-gnome. apt removed gaim and installed gaim-gnome. Everything ok

command "ls -d */" on my home directory. Only the
sub dirs are displayed.

I have FTPD installed and was wondering how I change the default directory.
Also how can I add users just for the ftp and not to have access to login

when trying to run
./make-pseudo-image binary-i386-1.list ftp://ftp.ca.debian.org for example
seems to occur for other ftp sites...
there is a note in the readme about using wget instead of ncftp
but it puts too much load on the ftp server. Should I be running as root
perhaps?
