When I try to run GPM using my PS/2 mouse, it seems like the program
disconnects my keyboard, because neither of them (keyboard and mouse) work.
I have a Compaq Presario 5030. I used the following configurations:
gpm -t ps2 (didn't do anything)
gpm -m psaux (froze the computer)
Using gpmconfig and
Running woody with 2.2.15 kernel, system updated today.
At bootup the kernel messages show that the at daemon as being loaded,no
error.
Entering an 'at' command results in,
Can't open /var/run/atd.pid to signal atd. No atd running?
'ps' agrees.

Well, now I know why ALL: ALL in hosts.deny stopped things.
It turns out that hosts.allow does not allow "ALL: my.ip.address" but is
happy with "ALL: 203.x.y.z" or even "ALL: 203.x.y." There is a note about
this regarding the portmapper but I had not realised that the portmapper
is involved.

I use an adapted HP A2094-B monitor (an old 19'' monitor intended for
HP workstations) which I adapted to use in a PC running Linux (the
only way I can afford a 19'' monitor ... ;).
After getting the synch timings from HP and making the cabling, I got
it to work fine with XFre
It works, thanks, this has been such a headache. I changed from a
yamaha oplsax isapnp sound card and went through so many aggravating
problems. Now I can relax..

For quite some time I happily run the 2.4.0-test4 kernel on my notebook
with no problems.
Just one thing: VMware (version 1.x) doesn't run anymore. I tried the
usual "vmware-config.pl" like the other times when I've compiled a

In Windows, when I shutdown the computer, it automatically turns off the
power. I believe it's something in the BIOS that allows this as not all
machines running Windows do this. Is there a way to make Linux do the same

hosts.deny has the line
ALL:ALL
This stops me logging in with ssh. The problem is that if I put a line in
hosts.allow like
sshd: my.ip.address
the rule does not match because sshd does not feature in inetd.conf.
What have I missed?

In one machine, while booting, it spends lot of time
while booting after printing the line

and then it boots completely. I issued dmesg and I
couldnot find anything wrong
