I've got Debian 1.3.1/2.0.29 on my Toshiba Tecra 520 CDT laptop, and can't
seem to find the modem. Win95 finds it fine at COM2, and minicom in Linux
USED to find it at /dev/ttyS1, but now it can't. I have added lots of

The easiest by far is to get the CD as already mentioned. However if
you're anxious to get going, here's a quick summary of how to get
started by downloading a few files from the FTP site (I'm assuming you
have a machine already running DOS/Windows):

I'm trying to use xacc in the hamm release (xacc_1.0.17-2.deb), but
when I try to enter a number in the register window, the cursor blinks
exceedingly fast and it brings to X server to a near standstill. I
can still continue, but at a snail's pace, maybe a character every 10
seconds. This occurs

You will have to download and use the isapnptools package. Once you have
that installed just follow along with the instructions and you should have
sound. By the way, sound *must* be compiled as a module in order for the
isapnptools to work properly.

I'm trying to enable sound support on my Debian system which, according to
the reading I've done, requires recompilation of the kernel.
Using config (the how-to or readme suggested that xconfig is not the best
to use ?) I have configured everything that I want except SOUND!!!

To switch stdout and stderr try this (in bash):
program 3>&1 1>&2 2>&3 | less
stderr will be paged thru less, while stdout will be sent to
the display.
Does any one have a cleaner solution? (I don't like using the
temporary file discriptor (3)).
