There appears to be a problem in the X3.3 packages. I have a #9 Motion
771. I can run XF86Setup, and I can enter all of the setup info. But
then when I click "Done" and it tries to start the server for my card, it
dies.

It seems that your AMD K6 have the reported 32M hardware bug. When did
you buy your CPU? Make sure your K6 is made after week 30 or contact
AMD and they will give you a new one.
By the way, try to compile the linux kernel. If your CPU have the bug,

For template classes, the class has to be in the header file only, it
can't have separate files for header and class file.
When you want to use the template class, only include the header file,
and compile only the test file, not the template class file.
Ex.

Debian ver 1.3 It is a slightly limited copy from a trilinux CD with
all 3 major disributions on 1 disk but should keep me happy untill my
ver 1.3.1 arrives.

The trick here is that when you get to the "boot:" prompt on the rescue
disk you enter "floppy0" thus
boot: floppy0
