I had tried to passing parameters to lilo, with
append= "ether=irq,io,0,1,eth0" as well as to insmod (Ethernet-HOWTO)
with xcvr=1 and none has succeed.

I just upgraded my Debian 1.1 using the access method option for ftp in
dselect. It looks as if I upgraded my dselect as well. After the upgrade,
the access method selection for ftp is no longer availaable. Was this by

As far as I know this is normal for SCSI devices. The devices have
to be on when you boot so the probe for devices recognizes what you
have on the SCSI bus at boot time.
You may be able to turn if off after the probe until you need it
(you'll have to check this)

Netstd no longer includes the pop daemon. You need to install the
qpopper or cuicpop package. I had to install it twice to make it work

I installed X recently in my PC and having problem under perticular
situation.
When I logged in as root or normal user, I can run X window programs,
e.g. xclock, oclock, xman, etc. But when I logged in as normal user
and then logged in as super user then I cannot run X window programs.

holding down the shift key, then booting up in single user mode. Then

I checked out my boot directory and found the following files:

There are two things that you can do. The first may or may not work, while
the second will work.
First, when you logon and your machine starts to go haywire, press CRTL-ALT-F1
(like CTRL-ALT-DEL except for the F1 key). This hopefully will get you to your
first console window, and you can log in
I installed an .Xmodmap in my home (user) directory. It suppose
to switch between hungarian and us keyboard by the use of the scroll
lock key.
Called the file up as
xmodmap .Xmodmap
in the .xinitrc file.
It does not seem to map the keyboard.

For some odd reason, my network just died a few min ago. This is the
second time it has happened. Everything has been working perfectly for
the last several months, then all of a sudden today and a few days ago,
everything would just stop. I was doing nothing out of the ordinary other
