On the command line, run
/usr/lib/gconf2/gconfd-2

Just ran apt-get update, apt-get -f dist-upgrade,
i get 'scrollkeeper-update:relocation error:/usr/lib/libxslt.so.1:
undefined symbol: xmlIsBaseCharGroup'
as a result gnome-control-center, gnome-panel, gnome-terminal,
evolution, ..etc fail to configure..
How do i 'fix' this?
