Same behavior when clicking on certain mails or choosing a folder with a
certain mail. The mail I explicately select was not GPG signed or
encrypted and I was able to view some GPG signed and encrypted mails. I
did not yet find a pattern in this.

not just by starting it. I started it stand alone and now I am using it
within Kontact. No crash yet.
