I am not going to try to take this on but somehow you would have to evaluate
apt-config
Dir::Etc::sourcepart. The tricky part would be making it dynamic as currently
it just creates a
symlink to /etc/apt/sources.list.

It FTBFSs for me in an unstable pbuilder. I don't know if it makes a
difference but I do have /bin/sh using /bin/dash to test the bashism bugs.
Do the buildds use dash? I was hoping to work on this but it's a damn
tarball in source package and I HATE those. :-)

In looking at this in Ubuntu it appears that replacing the deprecated
ustat.h with statfs.h in hardware.c seems to resolve the issue.
