Python 2.5 specific bug

Python-knowledgeable people: I seem to have uncovered a bug specific to python 2.5. Could you please take a look at #481071 and advise how to go about tracking it down? The bug can be reproduced with python 2.5 but only on Debian systems--on an Ubuntu 8.04 system the code does not throw an error.
