small computer installtion

I have a think pad 350C with 4Meg ram 201+8 Meg hard drive running a combo of small linux+tomsrtbt and a bigger dell running redhat 7 I want to use the think pad for learning C++ programming  is there a distro or file list that I can use to get gcc running on it  that you know of
