apt-get.
By the way, how can I download the 2.4.20ben8 kernel with rsync to my Mac
not being able to download it through Debian? Do I damage the file when I
download it through fink and store it on an HFS+ partition?

Hi Herb,
The file you are looking for is in /etc/X11. I have the same problem on my
PowerBook G3 (Wallstreet) and just going to redo the configuration. Have a
look in the file how to do this. I think the best option would be to
reconfigure with the command and not manually changing the file.

thing helped.
Has anybody an idea what I am doing wrong?
What shall I do to get debian to work?
TIA

Why hasn't anybody made a precompiled binary? I will never understand this
aspect of Debian.

e line in the file "default-display-manager" in /etc/X11
which stopped xdm (or gdm) to load.
Now I will start to check all the other functions, before I will install the
interesting software. (The compiling of the benh kernel I will try out
sometime in the future.
Thanks for your valuable hints

SCSI ports any more!
As a Mac user it would also be nice to be able to use the Apple key instead
of the CTRL key.
Kind regards

No, the fbdev driver works as the only one only on the 2.4.18 kernel. With
this new kernel the problem was solved.

4.) At the moment I try to get the PCMCIA slots to work. I downloaded the
pcmcia-cs-3.2.4.tar.gz package from sourceforge.net and am going to compile
it into the modules. Do I also need the pcmcia-modules package for that
purpose or can I

May be someone can decipher the information and get an idea what I should

XFree86 doesn't support accel

Now I understand, that the colour bit depth of the Debian console can be and
has to be lower than the bit depth of the x-windowing system.
The mclk value of 95 is the highest one I can use. Values below 75 will
result in line artefaxts in x-windows.

ge no kernel has been compiled at all.
Can somebody tell me what is going on? Do I need a different gcc compiler
and where to get it? Or does the compiling with the 2.95 gcc compiler depend
on some settings in the config file? I made `make config' with the original
settings suggested.
Please tell me, what I am doing wrong

What can I do?
Do I really have to reinstall everything from scratch? I huge effort as I
have compiled the benh10 kernel already.

Is it a bug in the benh10 kernel because in benh9 I had no problem?

Recently I tried to make a snapshot backup (mirroring, cloning) of my 1GB
debian installation partition. For that purpose I prepared an empty 2GB
LINUX partition on my external FireWire drive.
Within MacOS X and having Ext2FS_1.0a3 installed I first cloned my
installation to the FireWire partitio
