FWIW, I have my apt pointed at testing and woody, and I got libc
2.2-6 a couple weeks ago. Did you use apt-get dist-upgrade instead
of upgrade? dist-upgrade does a better job of sorting through the
dependencies.

I have been unable to compile from sources any program which requires
libdb on my system (Woody). Since libdb is required by gnome, this is a
lot of programs.
I have tried reinstalling libdb2, libdb2-dev, and libc6 all to no avail.
There is no libdb.so* anywhere on my system. Where can I get one?

Do the new XFree 4.0.2 packages include the Mach64 driver? Can I safely
upgrade my Powerbook (Wallstreet)?

I think you want xev.

Well, unsurprisingly, this config file didn't work. The next thing I'm
going to try is to build X from source, using ani's drivers. Does
anyone have a rough estimate of how much space a complete build will take?
Would it be possible to build and install only the ati driver, and leave
the rest as-is
Aha, this is what I needed to know. In the past I had been unable to build
X due to a lack of disk space. So I built the drivers as per Vinod's
instructions, and everything appears to be working fine. Thanks for the
pointers, everyone.

Here is the lasest output of apt-get update && apt-get upgrade. It seems
to be complaining about a Perl script, and will not go through with the
upgrade. This seems serious; how can I fix this? I have tried running
apt-get --reinstall on perl, perl-base and dpkg with no luck.

I am shopping around for a new laptop and I think the new ibook looks

What package has gnome-config? I can't seem to find it. Thought it would

Also, in general, is there a way to search UNinstalled packages for a

Since the iBook has basically the same video hardware, this should work on it,
right? I downloaded the kernel module source from dri.sourceforge.net and
built it; installed it, and I'm using the XF86Config-4 that was
referenced earlier in this thread. However I'm not getting DRI
acceleration--here
Ok, that was it. Thanks--

I've successfully done this in the past. XFree86 should work fine if you tell
it to use a serial mouse. You may have to construct a special adapter for
the serial port--IIRC, it's slightly different from a regular RS422-232
adapter.

I thought this might have to do with libstdc++, so I downgraded to
libstdc++-2.10 from testing, with no luck.
Any ideas?
