Can I install Debian on a PowerMac without having a version of MacOS installed?
I read somewhere about "open firmware" being
a solution to this problem; is it so?

I have the option to buy either a 7300 or a 7600; so these are "safe" choices,
right?
I have been "digging" around the "linux on ppc" sites and it seems that I can
use either quik or miboot...

I have been asking around the same question myself since I decided to buy a
cheap oldworld PowerMac to run Debian on it.
As far as I can tell, our only options (to but Linux without MacOS on a
"oldworld" machine) are:
