although i've been on the user end for quite some time. My first problem
is that the Sound does not work, a /dev/dsp exists but i don't kn

Well i tried compiling Ben H's kernel, and what happened was that my keyboard
got remapped in a way that i could not deal with, so i reinstalled the whole
thing, this time adding dmasound drivers to the kernel, then i did a chmod
666 /dev/dsp and all that. and now the sound works fine.
thanks f
What happens with my trackpad is that i'll be typing and my wrist will hit the
trackpad and the cursos will jump to whereever the mouse is at that point,
making it quite annoying to type at times.

the sound quality to 8 bits, and when i do
that manually "artsd -b 8" it doesn't give me this error, but KsCD still does
not play the audio CD.

I can't answer 1 and 2, tight of the bat, but i can answer 3..:)
i use xmms and the xmms-cdread plugin which has to run by itself so
you'll have to disable the cdreading pluging that's built into xmms and
enable this one, that way you can play audio CD's with a digitally.
