Hi, I've got quite a lot of experience with the i386 port of Debian,
and now that I've got myself a Powerbook G4 667 ("DVI revision"), I'm
considering putting debian-powerpc on it.
Unfortunately, documentation is relatively scarce, so I have the
following preparatory questions:

Everything works fine except:
No resume/suspend yet (that's the big limitation)
No TV out
No VGA out (or I missed something)
Thanks to all who replied. I now have a good idea of where I stand. It
seems (after some searching) that the suspend/resume issue is related
to ATI not having r
Don't forget to send a mail to ATI to gently ask them to provide the
doc to get the resume/suspend working.
This is a good idea. Any particular email address we should be sending
to, and is there anything in particular that should be requested in the
email?
Andrew.
ATI has a web form:
http://apps.ati.com/linuxDfeedback/
Hmm, the form doesn't seem to be working at the moment (ASP error upon
submission).

I'm trying to wrap my head around all these PPC Linux kernel trees...
One of the pages at ppckernel.org says that the BenH and BK trees are
slightly different and maintained by different people: BenH doing one tree
and Cort Dougan doing the BK tree. Surely this is outdated information?
Also, what
Thankyou for the clarification.
Andrew.
I've heard reports that ALSA does work with the Snapper sound device in
TiBooks, but I've not been able to find any documentation on how to do it.
What level of support actually is provided? Is it necessary to use the CVS
sources?
Thankyou.
Andrew.
I've been following Christophe's instructions for getting Debian onto a
TiBook. I recompiled the kernel but now the console is looking very
unhealthy - the text flickers a lot has "shadows" to the right of it.
Can somebody please help me?
Andrew.

Thankyou, and thanks for the great instructions. I will try it out when I
get home tonight.

Hi, I did the standard
rsync -avz rsync.penguinppc.org::linux-2.4-benh /usr/src/benh-kernel
but the kernel won't compile. I keep getting the following error message

cp arch/ppc/boot/images/vmlinux.coff
debian/tmp-image/boot/vmlinux.coff-2.4.20-ben9

Hi,
I'm in a bit of tricky situation here with my TiBook III. I need to
eject the Debian CD that's in the slot loading drive. However, the
significant complicating factor is that my ethernet port seems to have
died, leaving me with a very minimal system and no way to get useful

Thanks to Michael and Edward for their replies. This technique worked.

If you have installed the ssh package and have sshd running, then you
can log in and fix the problem. Go to
http://www.debian.org/ports/powerpc/keycodes
This tell you about the problem.
You have probably compiled the kernel
I have this working with F10 = button2 and F11 = button3.
Is it possible to configure this so that I can assign buttons 2 and 3
to some modifier key + mouse click? (For example, CTRL+click = button2.)
