Did you try removing /var/lib/alsa/asound.state?

As soon as I got home, I did got rid of the file,
I then ran mpg321 file.mp3 and no change.
Then i rebooted again and then tried again
and still same problem :(
I wish this problem would just fix itself with apt-get :)
