1. Do not use any gnome or kde stuff. sorry, too big!
2. use fluxbox, blacbox, ratpoision for window
manager
3. your ps -ef shows many more processes than mine,
but I do not recognize some of them.

If X is working, gpm is useless. Do you use a modem? If not remove diald.

You can sure remove a lot of those processes. For instance, do
you need NFS and/or NIS? If you don't, I think that you can
remove portmaper.
