Hi !
Finally fixed the problem : accelerated X is running :-)
Here's the working "Device" Section : this may help people with older
ati cards to get acceleration working (it is the trouble worth)
The trick was to change the reference clock : look at

I'll try upgrading ...
Thanks to all for advice

No, and if you want it for 3D acceleration, you need my packages from
deb ht

In the Monitor section, I tried to change this :
HorizSync 31.77,35.0,37.9,48.1,49.7,56.5
VertRefresh 60,66.67,60,70,72,75

does it really changes something ? I was thinking this was only necessary
for the kernel to find its modules ...
I'm running an OldWorld mac :-( with no support for modules in the kernel,
and not the sa

As newbie as I am I have found a process to make it work (for me).
1-unpack the source-2.4.18 tar.gz file in /usr/src
2-ln -s /usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.18/ /usr/src/linux-2.4.18-newpmac
3-cd /usr/src/linux-2.4.18-newpm

Fine. ;-)
I have another problem with the really same subject.
I build the mach64.o module in the 2.4.18 source tree and installed it.
when I insmod :
/lib/modules/2.4.18-newpmac/kernel/drivers/char/drm/mach64.o:

Hi,
I saw recently on this list that it was possible to get hardware acceleration
by using the 'ati' driver, but unfortunatly I can't get it right ...
When I start X, my screen gets black as if it was sleeping after a few seconds

switching to the console and 'ps'ing shows that the server is r
