This should be fixed in drm-trunk-module-src 2003.10.05-1 . You don't
need the DRM for external display though, only for 3D acceleration.

I'm having some problems with the vga-out tricky stuff. I'm running
debian unstable on a powerbook 1ghz, ati 9000.
It is not completely clear to me which are the steps to follow to have
